Rhode Island Connie Mack Baseball - 2023

The 2023 Rhode Island Connie Mack State Championship will feature the top two seeds, Flood Ford (12-4-1) and Coventry (12-5).

Down 1-0 in their series with Coventry, East Greenwich forced a game three behind the stellar pitching performance from Grogan O’Brien in 5-1 victory.

The right-handed pitcher struck out three batters and allowed just one run on three hits in seven innings of work.

A sacrifice fly by Thomas Speltz put EG on the board first in the bottom of the third inning.

O’Brien, Ryan Marcantonio, Robert Brooks, Lenny Kiernan, and Ryan Sheeran each collected one hit for the EG Connie Mack Avengers.

Also, Marcantonio, Speltz, Kiernan, and Sean Giannelli each drove in one run for the maroon and white.

Unfortunately for East Greenwich, however, they lost game three, 5-2.

East Greenwich ends a solid summer with an overall record of 11-7.

After winning nine consecutive games after a 3-5 start, West Warwick’s Connie Mack season came to end with a game three loss to First Place, Flood Ford.

WWCM took a series lead with a 5-3 upset over a Flood Ford. The Bishop Hendricken contingent, who knocked out the orange and black in last year’s semifinals, advanced to the State Championship for the second consecutive year.

Although they gave up three runs In their game one win, WWCM pulled a rarity of sorts by no-hitting Flood Ford

Leading hitters for West Warwick were Brendan Griffin (2/4) , Josh Pedus (1/4, one double, one run), Nick Brown (rbi double), Anthony Burt (1/4, one double), Nate Hunt (rbi single and one run scored), Zack Lawrence (1/3, one run) and Caden Denton (1/3, one run scored).

West Warwick, who had the longest winning streak of the year, finishes with a 12-7 record.
